The Pilgrim Travelers

The Pilgrim Travelers were an American gospel quartet formed in 1936 in Houston, Texas. The group gained national prominence after relocating to Los Angeles in the 1940s. They became known for a unique "walking rhythm" style that incorporated percussive foot-tapping, and their performances were characterized by energetic, choreographed stage shows.

J.W. Alexander served as the group's manager and a tenor singer. The Pilgrim Travelers recorded extensively for Specialty Records during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Notable members over the years included Kylo Turner, Keith Barber, Jesse Whitaker, and Lou Rawls.

Among the songs in the group's catalog were "Jesus Met the Woman at the Well," "Mother Bowed," "Did You Stop to Pray This Morning," "Go Ahead," "Everybody's Gonna Have a Wonderful Time Up There," "Wade In The Water," and "The Old Rugged Cross." The Pilgrim Travelers were inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
