About The Imperials
The Imperials are an American contemporary Christian and Southern gospel music group founded in 1964 by Jake Hess. The group began as a Southern gospel quartet before transitioning into contemporary Christian music (CCM) starting in the 1970s.
From 1966 to 1971, The Imperials served as backing vocalists for Elvis Presley. In 1972, they became the first interracial gospel quartet by adding Sherman Andrus. The group has undergone numerous personnel changes over its history, with Armond Morales remaining a long-time member for decades.
Key albums in the group’s catalog include New Dimensions (1967), Follow the Man with the Music (1975), Sail On (1977), Heed the Call (1979), One More Song for You (1981), Priority (1981), This Year’s Model (1987), and Back to the Roots (2008).
The Imperials have received four Grammy Awards and 15 Dove Awards. In 1998, they were inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
