About The Clark Sisters
The Clark Sisters are an American gospel vocal group, widely recognized as the highest-selling female gospel group in history. The group consists of sisters Jacky Clark Chisholm, Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. They are the daughters of renowned gospel musician and choral director Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Formed in Detroit, Michigan, the group has been performing together since 1966. An original member, Denise "Niecy" Clark-Bradford, was also part of the group's early lineup. Their musical style incorporates elements of blues, jazz, R&B, and classical music, and early recordings were often written, arranged, and produced by Twinkie Clark.
The Clark Sisters have received significant recognition for their contributions to gospel music. They received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. In 2020, they won the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award at the 35th Annual Stellar Awards. The group has also won multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Traditional Gospel Album and Best Gospel Song in 2008. Their album The Return won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album in 2021. In 2022, the group was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. A television biopic, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, was released in 2020, highlighting their story.
Over the years, the group's catalog has included such songs as "Is My Living in Vain," "You Brought the Sunshine," "Name It, Claim It," "Jesus Is a Love Song," "Blessed & Highly Favored," "Expect Your Miracle," and "His Love," which features Snoop Dogg. Their album The Return continues their legacy of gospel music.
