About Tasha Layton

Tasha Layton is a contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and author. She was born on October 27, 1982, in Pauline, South Carolina, and holds a Master of Divinity degree from The King's Seminary in Van Nuys, California. Layton auditioned for the ninth season of American Idol in 2010, reaching the third round of Hollywood week. She then spent four years as a background vocalist for pop artist Katy Perry before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013 to pursue a solo career in Christian music.

Layton signed with BEC Recordings and released her debut single, “I Belong to You,” in 2018. That was followed by the EP Love Running Wild (2019) and the single “Into the Sea (It’s Gonna Be OK)” in 2020. She released the album How Far in 2022, along with the holiday collection This Is Christmas later that same year. In 2024, she released the single “Worship Through It” featuring Chris Brown and the album Life in Me. Layton is married to producer and songwriter Keith Everette Smith and has authored a book titled Look What You’ve Done: The Lies We Believe & The Truth That Sets Us Free.

Layton was named one of Billboard’s Top 5 Female Christian Artists in both 2020 and 2021. Her single “Look What You’ve Done” reached number one on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart, and the title track from How Far also reached number one on the same chart.
