T-Bone, born Rene Francisco Sotomayor, is a Christian rapper and ordained minister. He was raised in the Mission District of San Francisco, California, to a father of Nicaraguan descent and a mother of Salvadoran descent. He began rapping at the age of seven. T-Bone has explained that the "T" in his stage name stands for "Talking," the "B" for "Biblical," and "ONE" for "ONE."
He became an ordained minister in 2002. In 2003, T-Bone appeared in the film The Fighting Temptations as the character "Bee-Z Biggs," and his song "To da River" was featured on the film’s soundtrack. His discography includes the albums Redeemed Hoodlum (1993), Tha Life of a Hoodlum (1995), The Last Street Preacha (2001), Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic (2002), Bone-A-Fide (2005), Pa mi Dios y Pa mi Gente (2017), and Broken English (2018).
The Last Street Preacha became the first rap album to debut at No. 7 on the Christian Contemporary Music charts. T-Bone has been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards: Best Rock Gospel Album for Tha Last Street Preacha (2001), Best Rap/Rock Gospel Album of the Year for Bone-a-fide! (2007), and Best Gospel Performance for "With Long Life" (2007). His bilingual upbringing and ministry-focused message have marked his career as a pioneering voice in Christian hip-hop.
