Slim & The Supreme Angels

Slim & The Supreme Angels are a traditional Black gospel quartet whose ministry has spanned more than seven decades. The group was formed in 1953 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by a circle of young ministers. Reverend Howard “Slim” Hunt, originally from Walnut Grove, Mississippi, joined the group as a guitarist in the 1960s. When the founding ministers departed to focus on their pastoral duties, Hunt stepped in as lead singer and continued the group under the name Slim & The Supreme Angels.

Their music is built around classic quartet-style harmonies and lyrics centered on faith, salvation, and spiritual encouragement. Over the years the lineup has included a number of vocalists, among them Robert “Sugar” Hightower, Maurice Robinson, and Michael Kimpson. The group’s catalog features songs such as “Death and the Beautiful Lady,” “Where Shall I Be,” “Shame On You,” “Going Home,” “On the Other Shore,” “I’ve Got Jesus,” and “Over Yonder.”

After Howard “Slim” Hunt passed away in 2007, his son, Quincy King, assumed the role of lead singer to continue the group’s ministry. That same year, Slim & The Supreme Angels released the album Reloaded (2009), marking a new chapter for the long-running quartet. Through changes in leadership and membership, the group has remained committed to its roots in traditional gospel quartet music.
