About Sidewalk Prophets
Sidewalk Prophets is an American contemporary Christian music band formed at Anderson University in Indiana. The group was founded by lead vocalist Dave Frey and rhythm guitarist Ben McDonald. The band’s name was inspired by a calendar definition of a prophet as “someone who tells the truth about life” and a Jars of Clay song. The band is currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2016, Ben McDonald transitioned from performing on stage to serving as the band’s full-time manager.
Sidewalk Prophets have released multiple studio albums, including These Simple Truths (2009), Live Like That (2012), Something Different (2015), The Things That Got Us Here (2020), and Looking Up (2025). They also released a holiday album, Merry Christmas To You. The band is known for their interactive touring style and often refers to their fanbase as “The Great Big Family.” They have achieved multiple No. 1 songs and Top 5 radio singles on Christian music charts.
The band won the GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year in 2010. Three of their singles—“The Words I Would Say,” “You Love Me Anyway,” and “Live Like That”—are RIAA Gold-certified. Other songs in their catalog include “Come to the Table,” “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts),” and “Come To Jesus.”
