About Sara Groves
Sara Groves, born Nancy Lee Colbaugh on September 10, 1972, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer known for her work in contemporary Christian music. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in history and English from Evangel University in 1994, she began her career as a high school teacher in Rosemount, Minnesota, before transitioning to full-time music. She released her debut album, Past the Wishing, in 1998, and quickly established a thoughtful, lyric-driven style.
Over the years, Groves released a series of well-received projects, including Conversations (2001), Add to the Beauty (2005), Tell Me What You Know (2007), O Holy Night (2008), Fireflies and Songs (2009), Invisible Empires (2011), and Abide With Me (2018). Her work earned critical recognition: Add to the Beauty was named Album of the Year for 2005 by CCM Magazine, and Fireflies & Songs was named Album of the Year by Christianity Today in 2009. She has also received multiple Dove Award nominations from the Gospel Music Association.
Beyond her recording career, Groves has pursued a ministry of community and justice. She and her husband, Troy, founded Art House North, a community art center located in a former church in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition, she has served as an artist advocate for the International Justice Mission since 2005, using her platform to raise awareness for social justice causes. Her career reflects a consistent commitment to artistry, faith, and service.
