Ray Boltz is a contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s with songs rooted in themes of faith and inspiration. Born on June 14, 1953, in Muncie, Indiana, he graduated from Ball State University with a degree in business and marketing. He began his singing career as a ministry to hospitals and convalescent homes before releasing his first album, Watch the Lamb, in 1986.
Boltz became known for several well-received songs in the Christian music community. His song “Thank You” earned a GMA Dove Award for Song of the Year in 1990. Another single, “I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb,” won the Dove Award for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year in 1994. Other songs in his catalog include “The Anchor Holds,” “The Altar,” and “Seasons Change.” His albums include Allegiance and the live recording The Concert of a Lifetime. The compilation album Moments for the Heart was certified Gold by the RIAA, as was the video release of The Concert of a Lifetime.
Boltz was married to Carol Boltz for 33 years, and they have four children. After his 2004 tour, he retired from the music industry, though he later released the album True in 2010. In 2008, he publicly came out as a gay man. His career remains noted for its impact on contemporary Christian music during his active years.
