About Papa San
Papa San, born Tyrone Thompson on July 1, 1967, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a reggae and dancehall artist who transitioned to a career in Christian gospel music and serves as an ordained pastor.
He began his music career in the late 1970s performing on sound systems and gained prominence as a secular dancehall artist in the 1980s and 1990s. After converting to Christianity in 1997, he transitioned to recording gospel music, becoming a pioneer in the gospel reggae genre. His first post-conversion album, Victory, was released in 1999, followed by God & I (2003), Real & Personal (2005), Higher Heights (2008), My Story (2012), One Blood (2014), and Life Lessons (2022).
God & I won Rap/Hip Hop Gospel CD of the Year at the 2004 Stellar Awards. Higher Heights peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart, and One Blood reached number 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Papa San and his wife, Debbie Thompson, are ordained ministers who founded Our Father's Kingdom Ministries International in 2011. He is based in Weston, Florida.
