Palmetto State Quartet

The Palmetto State Quartet is a professional Southern Gospel quartet that originated in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1946. The group was initially signed to perform a live half-hour program on WFBC Radio in Greenville, establishing a radio presence from its earliest days.

Throughout its history, the quartet experienced various personnel changes. In 1987, ownership of the group transitioned to Jack Earl Pittman. Renowned gospel pianist Hovie Lister served as the group’s pianist from 1989 to 1992.

The group received recognition within the Southern Gospel industry when it was presented with the Marvin Norcross Award for contributions to Southern Gospel at the 1988 Singing News Fan Awards. In 2004, the group’s song “Knock, Knock, Knock” was named the number one radio single by Singing News Magazine.

The Palmetto State Quartet officially disbanded in 2013, but resumed activity in 2025. Its recorded catalog includes releases such as Rock Solid (1994), Forefront (1999), When He Blessed My Soul (2001), There’s Something Going On (2002), Knock, Knock, Knock (2004), and Grace (2011).
