Melvin Williams

Melvin Williams is an American gospel musician, singer, songwriter, and producer known for his solo career and his long-standing membership in the gospel group The Williams Brothers. Born on July 21, 1953, in Smithdale, Mississippi, he has dedicated his work to traditional and roots gospel music.

Williams began his solo music career in 1988 with the release of the album Back to the Cross. He went on to release several additional solo projects, including In Living Color – LIVE (1992), Never Seen Your Face (1998), Duets (2001), Crazy Like Love and Love Like Crazy (both 2007), and Where I Started From (2017). In 2024, he released the single "What Are You Thankful For?"

Alongside his solo work, Williams has been a longtime member of The Williams Brothers, a group founded by his father, Leon "Pop" Williams, in 1960. He also co-founded the independent gospel record label Blackberry Records with his brother, Doug Williams. Additionally, he has served as an ambassador for the U.S. Department of State Cultural Affairs, performing and hosting workshops on gospel music history.

His contributions to gospel music, both as a solo artist and as a member of The Williams Brothers, have earned multiple Grammy Award nominations. Several of his albums have also charted on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart.
