Mahalia Buchanan

Mahalia Buchanan is a South African gospel singer, songwriter, and worship leader. She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on April 30, 1991, and began her professional music career at age thirteen. Early in her career, she performed in Benjamin Dube’s choir before gaining broader recognition as a singer and songwriter for the South African gospel choir Joyous Celebration.

Buchanan released her debut solo album, Redeemed to Worship, in 2015. Her catalog includes songs such as “Oh Bless Our God,” “You Fight for Me,” and “Holy (Most High).” She has collaborated with other gospel artists, including Sinach and Nathaniel Bassey. Beyond music, she is a television presenter who conceptualized and hosted the talk show Destiny.

In 2015, Buchanan won Best Newcomer at the SABC Crown Gospel Awards. The following year, she earned a South African Music Award (SAMA) nomination. Her television show Destiny received Best TV Show at the 2018 AGMMA Awards in the United Kingdom. In 2024, she released an EP titled The Ground We Stand On.
