Leeland is a Christian rock and worship band formed in 2004 in Baytown, Texas. The band was founded by lead singer and songwriter Leeland Mooring. Their musical style is often described as a blend of alternative contemporary Christian music, progressive rock, and worship. The original lineup included Leeland Mooring, Jack Mooring, Jake Holtz, Jeremiah Wood, and Mike Smith.
Leeland Mooring began writing songs at age 11 and signed a publishing deal with EMI CMG Publishing at age 15. The band released their debut album, Sound of Melodies, in 2006. The album received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Subsequent albums include Opposite Way, Love Is on the Move, The Great Awakening, and Invisible. The Great Awakening also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. The band has received multiple GMA Dove Award nominations.
The band has collaborated extensively with Christian artist Michael W. Smith. Leeland Mooring co-wrote the worship song “Lion and the Lamb.” Other songs in the band’s catalog include “Tears of the Saints” and “Follow You.” Leeland has been associated with labels including Essential Records, Provident Label Group, and Bethel Music.
