Lara George

Lara George is a Nigerian-American gospel singer, songwriter, and producer recognized for her work in Christian music. Born on June 23, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria, she initially pursued a career in architecture, earning a master’s degree from the University of Lagos before turning fully to music.

She began her professional music career as a member of the disbanded musical group Kush. In 2008, she launched her solo career with the debut album Forever In My Heart, which included the single “Ijoba Orun.” The following year, she released her self-titled album Lara George, and in 2012 she issued Higher – The Dansaki Album, featuring the single “Dansaki.” Her music is characterized by a blend of contemporary, Afrocentric, and gospel styles, and she eventually relocated to Alpharetta, Georgia, where she is based.

George’s vocal talent has earned her several industry accolades. She received Voice of the Year at the Nigeria Music Awards in 2008 and Best Vocals Performance (Female) at The Headies in 2010. At the Africa Gospel Music Awards, she was honored as Best African Female Gospel Artiste in 2011, Female Artiste of the Year in 2012, and Trailblazer of the Year in 2013. In 2014, she won Best Female Vocalist at the Crystal Awards.

Beyond recording, George has served as a judge on the music television show Airtel TRACE Music Star and is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). She released the album A Slice of Heaven in 2017 and the EP Daddy’s Girl in 2021, continuing to add to her catalog of gospel music.
