Kevin Mayhew

Kevin Mayhew (1942–2021) was a British composer, choirmaster, and music publisher who devoted his career to creating and distributing resources for Christian worship. His journey in church music began as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, where he also attended the Westminster Cathedral Choir School. In the mid-1960s, he served as choirmaster of the Sacred Heart Choir in Southend-on-Sea.

Mayhew gained early recognition for self-publishing a setting for the Roman Catholic mass in English. He went on to co-found the publishing house Mayhew-McCrimmon before establishing his own company, Kevin Mayhew Ltd, in 1976. The company became known for producing hymn books, choral music, and liturgical resources for a range of Christian denominations.

Among his compositions, Mayhew wrote the hymn "Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord" in 1976. His catalog also includes songs such as "Calm Me, Lord" and "You Are the Centre," as well as the series "20th Century Folk Hymnal." Through his work as a publisher and composer, he provided materials that supported congregational singing and worship in churches for decades.
