About Jason Castro
Jason René Castro was born on March 25, 1987, in Dallas, Texas. He first gained national attention as a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol, where he finished in fourth place. Castro was the first contestant on the show to play an instrument during his performances. He is of Colombian descent and was raised in a Christian home. He attended Texas A&M University, where he majored in Construction Science.
Following his American Idol appearance, Castro signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records. He released a self-titled debut album, Jason Castro, in 2010, as well as a Christian album titled Who I Am that same year. He also released the EP The Love Uncompromised in 2010. His music career has included both mainstream and Christian-market releases. He later released music through Word Records, a label known for Christian music. In 2013 he released the album Only a Mountain. He also released the single "You Are."
Castro has been open about his Christian faith. He participated in the "I Am Second" campaign, where he discussed his faith journey. He has toured with contemporary Christian artists such as TobyMac and NewSong, further connecting his music to the Christian music community.
