Ivan Parker

Ivan Ray Parker was born on December 21, 1957, in Sanford, North Carolina, and grew up in a Pentecostal pastor’s home. He began his professional music career in 1982 with the Southern Gospel group The Singing Americans. The following year, in 1983, he became the lead vocalist for the Gold City Quartet, a role he held for a decade until 1993. During his time with the quartet, the group won a GMA Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year in 1993.

Parker launched a solo career in 1994, releasing the album Faithful that same year. He became a featured performer in the Gaither Homecoming concert series and videos for many years. His signature song is “Midnight Cry,” and his catalog also includes songs such as “I Choose” and “When I Get Carried Away.” In 2008, the compilation The Best of Ivan Parker: From the Homecoming Series was released, reaching number 188 on the Billboard 200, while the companion DVD/CD peaked at number two on Billboard’s Music Video Chart. He later released the album Feels Like Home in 2019.

Over the course of his career, Parker was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993 and received numerous Singing News Fan Awards, including honors for Favorite Male Vocalist and Favorite Soloist. In 2023, he announced that he was stepping back from full-time touring.
