Eric Moyo

Eric Pheli Moyo (1982–2023) was a Zimbabwean-born gospel singer who rose to prominence as the inaugural winner of Idols East Africa in 2008. Born into a musical family in Zimbabwe, he gained early exposure to music through church activities. Before his solo breakthrough, he was a member of the gospel a cappella group Family Voices.

In 2014, Moyo joined the renowned South African gospel choir Joyous Celebration after being discovered by founder Lindelani Mkhize. He served as a tenor vocalist for the choir, appearing on albums beginning with Joyous 18. He later featured prominently on the album Joyous Celebration 24: The Rock with the song “Olonga Motema Nanga.”

Moyo’s career was marked by his powerful tenor voice and his dedication to gospel music. He passed away on December 20, 2023, after collapsing on stage during a performance in South Africa, leaving a lasting impression on the southern African gospel music community.
