About Elyssa Smith
Elyssa Smith is a worship leader and songwriter known for her work with the ministry UPPERROOM and for her solo recordings in Christian music. She was born and raised in Borger, Texas, and in 2010 she moved to Dallas to attend Christ for the Nations Institute. Since 2013, she has served as a writer, artist, and worship leader at UPPERROOM, a ministry centered in Dallas.
Smith is a songwriter best known for co-writing the worship song “Surrounded (Fight My Battles),” which has been recorded by multiple artists. In 2020 she released the single “Make Room,” and the following year she put out her debut solo album, Wearing a Blindfold and Running. The album marked a new chapter in her career, showcasing her original songs in a full-length project.
Her subsequent releases include the live recording “Jesus The Healer” in 2022, the single “Matchless” in 2023, and the single “Jesus Is My Healer,” featuring Jessie Harris, in 2024. Through her roles as a worship leader and a recording artist, Smith has continued to contribute to the church’s songbook while developing her own musical voice.
