Damita Jo DeBlanc (1930–1998) was born in Austin, Texas, and began her career as a featured vocalist with Steve Gibson and the Red Caps during the 1950s. She achieved chart success in the early 1960s with answer songs, including “I’ll Save the Last Dance for You” and “I’ll Be There.” Her catalog also includes the song “If You Go Away.” DeBlanc later toured with comedian Redd Foxx and appeared on his television show.
