Colton Dixon (born Michael Colton Dixon on October 19, 1991) is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. A contemporary Christian music artist known for blending pop and rock elements with faith-centered lyrics, he first gained national attention as a contestant on the eleventh season of American Idol in 2012, where he placed seventh. Dixon graduated from Middle Tennessee Christian School in 2010.
His debut album, A Messenger, released in 2013, reached number one on the U.S. Christian and Gospel charts and set the record for the biggest first-week sales by a new solo Christian act at the time of its release. The album earned him a GMA Dove Award for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year in 2013. He repeated that honor in 2015 when his second album, Anchor, also won the Dove Award for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year. Dixon’s catalog includes the album Identity and singles such as “You Are,” “More of You,” “Miracles,” “Build a Boat,” and “Through All of It.” “Build a Boat” reached number one on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs Chart and the Christian AC Airplay Chart.
Dixon has toured with notable Christian artists including TobyMac, Third Day, and Britt Nicole. He is married to Annie Coggeshall, and the couple has twin daughters.
