Cliff Richard, born Harry Rodger Webb on October 14, 1940, in Lucknow, India, is a British singer, songwriter, and actor who began his career in 1958. He first rose to fame as a rock and roll singer with his backing group, The Shadows. His 1958 single "Move It" is often cited as Britain’s first authentic rock and roll song. Other early hits included "Living Doll" (1959) and the 1968 Eurovision entry "Congratulations."
In 1964, Richard became an active evangelical Christian, a decision that began to shape his music and public life. He started incorporating Christian themes into his work, performed at Billy Graham crusades, and recorded Christian-themed songs throughout his career.
