About Chris August
Chris August, a Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter, producer, and mixer, was born Christopher August Megert on March 20, 1982, in Garland, Texas. He began his music career in the secular industry, working with artists such as Brian McKnight and Ashlee Simpson. After moving back to Texas, August transitioned to a career in Contemporary Christian music.
His debut Christian album, No Far Away, was released in 2010. The lead single, "Starry Night," reached number one on the Billboard Christian Songs chart. The album also earned August three honors at the 2011 GMA Dove Awards: New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Album of the Year.
August followed No Far Away with the album The Upside of Down in 2012, which included the single "7x70." He continued releasing solo projects with The Maker (2015) and Seasons (2018). Later singles include "Gave You My Heart" (2020) and "In The Weather" (2023).
Beyond his own recordings, August has worked as a songwriter and producer for other artists. He has signed publishing deals with BMG and later Warner Chappell Music and Cornman Music, and has written or co-written songs for artists including Keith Urban and Hootie & the Blowfish. He is based in Franklin, Tennessee.
