About Cageless Birds

The Cageless Birds is a Christian worship collective founded in 2013 by worship leaders Jonathan and Melissa Helser. Based in Sophia, North Carolina, the group operates as a non-profit ministry and creative community, bringing together songwriters, musicians, visual artists, and artisans.

The collective’s mission is to create resources that help people encounter the heart of God and the Gospel message. Their creative output includes worship music, instrumental soundscapes, books, podcasts, and handcrafted goods. They also manage and support a discipleship school known as The 18 Inch Journey.

The Cageless Birds have released a number of albums and projects, including Live at Home (2014), The Joy of the Chase (2017), We Rise We Bow (2019), Generosity: The Sound of Cultivate (2021), Branches (2023), and Let God Come In (2025). They also released the single “Ain’t No Grave” in 2018 and the EP Cathedral in 2025. Over the years, the collective has collaborated with the Bethel Music collective.

Through their music and discipleship work, the Cageless Birds continue to serve as a creative community centered on worship and spiritual formation.
