Building 429 is an American Christian rock band formed in 1999 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The group’s name is a reference to the Bible verse Ephesians 4:29, which speaks about building others up with encouraging words. Their musical style blends Christian rock, contemporary Christian music, and pop-rock. Founding members include Jason Roy and Scotty Beshears, and the band’s lineup has also included Jesse Garcia, Aaron Branch, and Michael Anderson.
The band signed with Essential Records and later with INO Records, eventually launching their own label, 3rd Wave Music. Their early single “Glory Defined” (2004) became a defining song for the group, earning them a Gospel Music Association Dove Award for New Artist of the Year in 2005 and a BMI Christian Song of the Year award. The song’s message of faith and clarity resonated with listeners and helped establish Building 429 in Christian music.
In the following years, the band released albums such as Listen to the Sound (2011) and We Won’t Be Shaken (2013). The single “Where I Belong” (2012) became a major success, earning a Billboard Christian Song of the Year award in 2012, a BMI Christian Song of the Year award in 2013, and an RIAA-certified gold record. The album We Won’t Be Shaken received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2013.
Jason Roy has also served as a worship pastor, reflecting the band’s ongoing commitment to musical ministry. Later releases include “Fear No More” (2019), “Different” (2020), “Press On” (2013), and “Made For You” (2011). Building 429 continues to be recognized for their chart success and lyrical focus on hope and faith.
