Bird Youmans

Bird Youmans is a gospel music singer and producer based in Conyers, Georgia. The son of a Baptist minister, he was raised in South Georgia and began playing piano at age three. During the 1960s and 1970s, he performed secular rock and country music, including a stint as a bass player for Frank Zappa in 1974. In 1997, Youmans transitioned to a career in gospel music, dedicating himself to traditional gospel favorites and original praise songs.

He operates The Bird’s Nest Recording Studio and Olive Branch Records, where he produces his own music and likely supports other artists. His releases include the EP Sweet by and By (2023), as well as recordings of classic hymns such as “The Old Rugged Cross,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “When We All Get to Heaven,” “Jesus Hold My Hand,” “Mansion over the Hilltop,” and “On the Wings of a Dove.” In 2025, he released the song “One Day at a Time.”

Youmans also hosts a program titled “Bird’s Old Time Gospel Music Friday Night Sing Along,” further connecting him with audiences who appreciate old-fashioned gospel music. His career path from secular performance to full-time gospel ministry reflects a personal commitment to sharing Christian music through both the hymns he grew up with and original worship songs.
