Benjamin "BeBe" Winans was born on September 17, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, as the seventh child and youngest male of the Winans family, a prominent gospel music family. He began his career as a member of the PTL Singers on the Christian television show The PTL Club.

He gained prominence as part of the duo BeBe & CeCe Winans with his sister CeCe Winans. The duo were among the first Christian artists to achieve significant crossover success in the mainstream music industry. Their albums include Heaven, Different Lifestyles, and Still, along with singles such as "Addictive Love," "Close to You," and "He Promised Me." BeBe Winans also released the solo single "I Wanna Be the Only One" and "Father In Heaven (Right Now)." He launched a solo career in 1997 with his self-titled album.

BeBe Winans has won six Grammy Awards—three as a solo artist and three with CeCe Winans. He has also received ten GMA Dove Awards and six Stellar Awards. BeBe & CeCe Winans were inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011 and into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022.

Beyond music, Winans has authored books including the memoir Born for This: My Story in Music and The Whitney I Knew. He has worked as an actor, with credits including Broadway's The Color Purple. He has also served as an executive music producer for the television series Greenleaf and hosted a radio show on the SiriusXM Heart & Soul channel.
