Aled Jones

Aled Jones, the Welsh singer, actor, and broadcaster, is a self-described Christian whose career has spanned from celebrated boy soprano to long-serving presenter of the BBC’s Songs of Praise. Born on December 29, 1970, he began singing as a nine-year-old in the choir of Bangor Cathedral. His recording of “Walking in the Air” became a major hit in 1985, reaching number five on the UK singles chart and introducing his clear treble voice to a global audience.

Over the years, Jones has continued to record and perform, selling more than 10 million albums worldwide. His catalog includes the albums All Through the Night, One Voice, One Voice at Christmas, Blessings, Hear My Prayer, Aled, and Higher. He also trained at the Royal Academy of Music and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, laying a foundation for both his musical and acting work.

In 2004, Jones became a presenter on the BBC’s religious program Songs of Praise, a role he has held for more than two decades. He has received several notable honors: a BASCA Gold Badge Award in 2009, a Gramophone Award in 1987 for his performance on Handel’s Athalia, and an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Music in 2014. In 2013, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to music, broadcasting, and charity. More recently, in 2023, he qualified as a civil celebrant, authorized to officiate at weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies, further reflecting his commitment to public service and his Christian faith.
