God's expectations for us in caring for the poor are woven throughout Scripture, and it is our responsibility to heed His call.

God's Love for the Poor

God's love for the poor is evident in both the Old and New Testaments. In Jeremiah 22:16, the Lord commends King Josiah for defending the cause of the poor and needy, declaring that it is a true demonstration of knowing Him. Moses also instructs the Israelites to give generously to the poor and promises that God will bless them abundantly for their compassion (Deuteronomy 15:10).

The book of Proverbs is replete with verses emphasizing God's love for the poor and His expectation for us to care for them. Proverbs 14:31 states, "Whoever is kind to the needy honors God."
