The Bishops

The Bishops were a Southern Gospel family trio from Kentucky, active from 1984 to 2001. The group consisted of brothers Mark and Kenny Bishop along with their father, Kenneth Bishop. They were founded in Richmond, Kentucky, and released their debut album, He Gave His Life, in 1984. Over the course of their career, the trio recorded more than two dozen audio and video projects. They traveled and performed primarily within the United States until disbanding in 2001.

Mark Bishop served as a primary songwriter for the group, often writing ballads with spiritual or inspirational themes. Kenny Bishop was ordained as a minister and served as an associate pastor while performing with the trio. The Bishops appeared on various Christian television programs, including the Gaither Homecoming series. Their recorded catalog included songs such as “He’s In The Midst” (1992), “He’s My Hiding Place” (1995), “You Can’t Ask Too Much Of My God” (1996), “Live At Fayetteville Community Church” (1988), “Class Of ’90” (1990), “Reach The World” (1997), “Great Things” (2000), and “Lazarus Come Forth” (1994).

The Bishops received recognition from both fans and industry peers. They won the Singing News Fan Award for Favorite Trio in 1997 and 1998. Kenny Bishop was voted Favorite Young Artist at the 1992 Singing News Fan Awards. In 2000, Mark Bishop received a GMA Dove Award for producing the Best Bluegrass Gospel Album of the Year, Kentucky Bluegrass.
