Nqubeko Mbatha

Nqubeko Mbatha is a South African gospel musician, pianist, composer, producer, and former musical director for the acclaimed gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration. Growing up in KwaZulu-Natal, he studied music at the Natal Technikon, now the Durban University of Technology. Alongside his musical pursuits, he co-founded the record label Koko Records in 2007.

For 11 years, Mbatha served as a musical director and producer for Joyous Celebration, helping shape the sound of one of the country’s most prominent gospel groups. In 2011, he released his debut solo album, Forever I’ll Worship. The project earned two Gospel Crown awards and received a nomination at the 18th annual South African Music Awards.

Mbatha’s solo discography also includes the albums The Rehearsal - Chapter One and Passover. Among his recorded songs are “NjengoJesu,” “Favor” featuring Ntokozo Mbambo, “Serve Only Jesus” with Sicelo Moya, “Help Me Know Jesus” featuring Janine Price, and “The Lord’s Prayer.” He has also produced music for South African television programs such as Gospel Classics, Gospel Avenue, and Word and Song. Mbatha is married to gospel artist Ntokozo Mbambo.
