Bheka Mthethwa

Bheka Mthethwa is a South African gospel-jazz musician, professional session bass guitarist, composer, producer, musical director, and arranger. He was born in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and began his musical journey at age ten, playing keyboards at church. At fifteen, he started teaching himself the bass guitar by listening to gospel and R&B recordings.

Mthethwa’s career includes performances and collaborations with numerous prominent artists and groups, including Joyous Celebration, Benjamin Dube, Ntokozo Mbambo, and Kirk Franklin. He attended the annual Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown, and his work has taken him on international tours, including performances in the United Kingdom.

In 2014, Mthethwa released the single “Ubusisiwe,” followed by his debut album, Supernal Sounds, in 2017. His catalog also includes songs such as “Always,” “All By Grace,” “Revelation 4,” “I Can See The Light,” and “Psalm 23.” At the 11th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in 2018, “All By Grace,” featuring Mabongi, won Best Gospel-Jazz Song.
