Pulpit CommentaryVerses 7-13. - The disciples Peter and John are directed to prepare for the last Passover. Verse 7. - Then came the day of unleavened bread. This was the Thursday, Nisan 13. On this afternoon all leaven was carefully and scrupulously put away; hence the name.
Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(7-13) Then came the day of unleavened bread.--See Notes on Matthew 26:17-19; Mark 14:12-16. St. Luke, like St. Mark, writing for Gentiles, adds the explanatory note, "when the Passover must be killed," or, better, sacrificed. (Comp. "Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us," in 1Corinthians 5:7.)
