Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(17) And he brought the meat offering.--This Aaron offered according to the rule in Leviticus 2:1-3.Beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning.--That is, in addition to the lamb which was daily offered as a burnt sacrifice, and was accompanied by a meat offering (Exodus 29:30; Exodus 29:40). Accordingly Aaron began his priestly functions by first offering the daily morning sacrifice which took precedence of all other sacrifices, and which was never superseded by the extra offerings: then followed the other sacrifices here described.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewNext, he presentedוַיַּקְרֵב֮ (way·yaq·rêḇ)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7126: To come near, approachthe grain offering,הַמִּנְחָה֒ (ham·min·ḥāh)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 4503: A donation, tribute, a sacrificial offeringtookוַיְמַלֵּ֤א (way·mal·lê)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 4390: To fill, be full ofa handfulכַפּוֹ֙ (ḵap·pōw)Noun - feminine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 3709: Hollow or flat of the hand, palm, sole (of the foot), a panof it,מִמֶּ֔נָּה (mim·men·nāh)Preposition | third person feminine singularStrong's 4480: A part of, from, out ofand burnedוַיַּקְטֵ֖ר (way·yaq·ṭêr)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6999: To smoke, turn into fragrance by fireit onעַל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstthe altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (ham·miz·bê·aḥ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4196: An altarin addition toמִלְּבַ֖ד (mil·lə·ḇaḏ)Preposition-m, Preposition-l | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 905: Separation, a part of the body, branch of a, tree, bar for, carrying, chief ofthe morning’sהַבֹּֽקֶר׃ (hab·bō·qer)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1242: Dawn, morningburnt offering.עֹלַ֥ת (‘ō·laṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 5930: Whole burnt offeringJump to PreviousAddition Altar Besides Burned Burnt Burnt-Offering Burnt-Sacrifice Filled Hand Handful Meal Meal-Offering Meat Meat-Offering Morning Morning's Oblation Offered Offering Presented Sacrifice Separately Smoke Therefrom Thereof
