Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(15) And the flesh of the sacrifice.--That is, after the priest had the breast and the shoulder, the share of the victim which belongs to the offerer, together with the remaining loaves, he with his family and poor guests (see Deuteronomy 12:11-18) are to eat up before the morning, which at the time of the second Temple was limited to midnight. This limitation of time was designed both to encourage liberality to the poor, and to impress upon those who partook of it that it was a sacrificial and sacred feast, so as to prevent its being turned into unseemly conviviality.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThe meatוּבְשַׂ֗ר (ū·ḇə·śar)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1320: Flesh, body, person, the pudenda of a, manof the sacrificeזֶ֚בַח (ze·ḇaḥ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2077: A slaughter, the flesh of an animal, a sacrificeof his thanksgivingתּוֹדַ֣ת (tō·w·ḏaṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 8426: An extension of the hand, avowal, adoration, a choir of worshipperspeace offeringשְׁלָמָ֔יו (šə·lā·māw)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 8002: A sacrifice for alliance or friendship, peace offeringmust be eatenיֵאָכֵ֑ל (yê·’ā·ḵêl)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 398: To eaton the dayבְּי֥וֹם (bə·yō·wm)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3117: A dayhe offers it;קָרְבָּנ֖וֹ (qā·rə·bā·nōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 7133: Something brought near the altar, a sacrificial presentnoneלֹֽא־ (lō-)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, noof itמִמֶּ֖נּוּ (mim·men·nū)Preposition | third person masculine singularStrong's 4480: A part of, from, out ofmay be leftיַנִּ֥יחַ (yan·nî·aḥ)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3240: Bestow, cast down, lay down, up, leave off, let alone remain, pacify, place, untilעַד־ (‘aḏ-)PrepositionStrong's 5704: As far as, even to, up to, until, whilemorning.בֹּֽקֶר׃ (bō·qer)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1242: Dawn, morningJump to PreviousEaten Fellowship Flesh Food Kept Leave Meat Morning Oblation Offered Offering Offerings Part Peace Peace-Offering Peace-Offerings Praise-Offering Presented Sacrifice Thanksgiving
