Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(10) When ye be come into the land.--This is the third of the four instances in Leviticus where a law is given prospectively, having no immediate bearing on the condition of the people of Israel. (See Leviticus 19:23.)Then ye shall bring a sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest.--Better, ye shall bring the first-fruit omer of your harvest. The omer had to be from the best and ripest standing corn of a field near Jerusalem. The measure of an omer was of the meal obtained from the barley offering. Hence three seahs = one ephah, or ten omers, were at first gathered in the following manner :--"Delegates from the Sanhedrim went into the field nearest to Jerusalem a day before the festival, and tied together the ears in bundles whilst still fastened to the ground."Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrew“Speakדַּבֵּ֞ר (dab·bêr)Verb - Piel - Imperative - masculine singularStrong's 1696: To arrange, to speak, to subduetoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe Israelitesבְּנֵ֤י (bə·nê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 1121: A sonand say,וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (wə·’ā·mar·tā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 559: To utter, say‘Whenכִּֽי־ (kî-)ConjunctionStrong's 3588: A relative conjunctionyou enterתָבֹ֣אוּ (ṯā·ḇō·’ū)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person masculine pluralStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gothe landהָאָ֗רֶץ (hā·’ā·reṣ)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 776: Earth, landIאֲנִי֙ (’ă·nî)Pronoun - first person common singularStrong's 589: Iam givingנֹתֵ֣ן (nō·ṯên)Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine singularStrong's 5414: To give, put, setyouלָכֶ֔ם (lā·ḵem)Preposition | second person masculine pluralStrong's Hebrew and reapוּקְצַרְתֶּ֖ם (ū·qə·ṣar·tem)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - second person masculine pluralStrong's 7114: To dock off, curtail, to harvestits harvest,קְצִירָ֑הּ (qə·ṣî·rāh)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 7105: Severed, harvest, the crop, the time, the reaper, a limbyou are to bringוַהֲבֵאתֶ֥ם (wa·hă·ḇê·ṯem)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Conjunctive perfect - second person masculine pluralStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gotoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe priestהַכֹּהֵֽן׃ (hak·kō·hên)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3548: Priestthe sheafעֹ֛מֶר (‘ō·mer)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 6016: A heap, a sheaf, an omer (dry measure)of the firstfruitsרֵאשִׁ֥ית (rê·šîṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 7225: The first, in place, time, order, rankof your harvest.קְצִירְכֶ֖ם (qə·ṣî·rə·ḵem)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person masculine pluralStrong's 7105: Severed, harvest, the crop, the time, the reaper, a limbJump to PreviousChildren Enter Fields First Firstfruits First-Fruits Fruits Grain Harvest Israel Israelites Priest Reap Reaped Sheaf Speak Thereof
