Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(17) And every skin.--That is, everything which a man wears or lies upon made of skin, in contradistinction to the ordinary garments made of stuffs (see Leviticus 13:48) with which it is associated. Any one of these thus defiled was cleansed by washing. It is from this circumstance that the apostle borrows the expression "hating even the garments spotted by the flesh" (Jude 1:23).Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAnyוְכָל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyclothingבֶּ֣גֶד (be·ḡeḏ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 899: A covering, clothing, treachery, pillageor leatherע֔וֹר (‘ō·wr)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5785: Skin, hide, leatheronעָלָ֖יו (‘ā·lāw)Preposition | third person masculine singularStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstwhichאֲשֶׁר־ (’ă·šer-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatthere isיִהְיֶ֥ה (yih·yeh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, bean emissionשִׁכְבַת־ (šiḵ·ḇaṯ-)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 7902: (act of) lying, a layerof semenזָ֑רַע (zā·ra‘)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2233: Seed, fruit, plant, sowing-time, posteritymust be washedוְכֻבַּ֥ס (wə·ḵub·bas)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Pual - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3526: To trample, to washwith water,בַּמַּ֖יִם (bam·ma·yim)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 4325: Water, juice, urine, semenand it will remain uncleanוְטָמֵ֥א (wə·ṭā·mê)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanuntilעַד־ (‘aḏ-)PrepositionStrong's 5704: As far as, even to, up to, until, whileevening.הָעָֽרֶב׃ (hā·‘ā·reḇ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 6153: EveningJump to PreviousClothing Copulation Emission Evening Flow Garment Leather Seed Semen Seminal Skin Unclean Washed Water Whereon
