Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(43, 45) And if the plague come again.--If after these alterations and precautions the symptoms reappear, the house must be pulled down, just as the garment was destroyed under similar circumstances (see Leviticus 13:51), and the materials deposited in the unclean receptacle outside the city, since its re-appearance shows that it is an incurable leprosy. From the fact that the materials of the house here spoken of are stones, earth, and wood, the ancient canons enacted that no dwelling is exposed to the laws of leprosy unless it has four walls, and is built of stone, earth, and wood. Houses of brick and marble, therefore, do not come within these laws.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewIfוְאִם־ (wə·’im-)Conjunctive waw | ConjunctionStrong's 518: Lo!, whether?, if, although, Oh that!, when, notthe mildewהַנֶּ֙גַע֙ (han·ne·ḡa‘)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5061: Mark -- a blow, a spotreappearsיָשׁ֤וּב (yā·šūḇ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7725: To turn back, in, to retreat, againin the houseבַּבַּ֔יִת (bab·ba·yiṯ)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1004: A houseafterאַחַ֖ר (’a·ḥar)PrepositionStrong's 310: The hind or following partthe stonesהָאֲבָנִ֑ים (hā·’ă·ḇā·nîm)Article | Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 68: A stonehave been torn outחִלֵּ֣ץ (ḥil·lêṣ)Verb - Piel - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2502: To pull off, to strip, to depart, to deliver, equip, present, strengthenandוְאַחֲרֵ֛י (wə·’a·ḥă·rê)Conjunctive waw | PrepositionStrong's 310: The hind or following partthe houseהַבַּ֖יִת (hab·ba·yiṯ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1004: A househas been scrapedהִקְצ֥וֹת (hiq·ṣō·wṯ)Verb - Hifil - Infinitive constructStrong's 7096: To cut off, to destroy, to scrape offand replastered,הִטּֽוֹחַ׃ (hiṭ·ṭō·w·aḥ)Verb - Nifal - Infinitive constructStrong's 2902: To overspread, overlay, coat, besmearJump to PreviousBreak Breaks Broken Daubing Disease Drawn House However Mark Mildew New Paste Plague Plastered Reappears Replastered Rubbed Scraped Stones Torn Walls
