Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(18-20) The caldrons also, and the shovels . . .--The list in 2Kings 25:14-16 omits the basons, the caldrons, the candlesticks, and the cups; in Jeremiah 52:15 it gives the definite article in the Hebrew "the one sea," and omits the "twelve brasen bulls. Strictly speaking, the bases (1Kings 7:27) were under the ten lavers which were used for washing the meat for the sacrifices, and the twelve bulls (1Kings 7:25) supported the molten sea, or bigger laver, for the priests' ablutions; 2Kings 16:17 suggests the thought that the bulk of the bronze had been removed by Ahaz and given to Tiglath Pileser, though possibly not taken away by him.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThey also took awayלָקָֽחוּ׃ (lā·qā·ḥū)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 3947: To takethe pots,הַ֠סִּרוֹת (has·si·rō·wṯ)Article | Noun - common pluralStrong's 5518: A pot, a thorn, a hookshovels,הַיָּעִ֨ים (hay·yā·‘îm)Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 3257: A shovelwick trimmers,הַֽמְזַמְּר֜וֹת (ham·zam·mə·rō·wṯ)Article | Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 4212: A tweezersprinkling basins,הַמִּזְרָקֹ֣ת (ham·miz·rā·qōṯ)Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 4219: Bowl, basindishes,הַכַּפּ֗וֹת (hak·kap·pō·wṯ)Article | Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 3709: Hollow or flat of the hand, palm, sole (of the foot), a panand allכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe articlesכְּלֵ֧י (kə·lê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 3627: Something prepared, any apparatusof bronzeהַנְּחֹ֛שֶׁת (han·nə·ḥō·šeṯ)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 5178: Copper, something made of that metal, coin, a fetter, baseused in the temple service.יְשָׁרְת֥וּ (yə·šā·rə·ṯū)Verb - Piel - Imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 8334: To attend as a, menial, worshipper, to contribute toJump to PreviousBasins Bowls Brass Bronze Caldrons Cups Dishes Incense Knives Lights Minister Ministered Pans Pots Scissors Service Shovels Snuffers Spades Spoons Sprinkling Temple Trimmers Used Vessels Wherewith Wick
