Pulpit CommentaryVerse 6. - And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons (literally, souls) of his house, and his cattle (mikneh), and all his beasts (behe-mah), and all his substance (literally, all his acquisitions), which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country - literally, into a land; not ἐκ τῆς γῆς (LXX.), or in alteram regionem (Vulgate), but either into the land, so. of Seir (Keil), or, taking the next as a qualifying clause, into a land apart (Murphy, Lange) - from the face of - or, on account of (Rosenmüller, Kalisch) - his brother Jacob.
