Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(5) Open fields is synonymous with "wilderness" in the previous clause. The crocodile and the fish together, drawn from the river, are to be thrown upon the sands of the neighbouring desert, to be devoured by the birds and beasts of prey: thus representing that Pharaoh and his people, uprooted from their power, are to be given over for a spoil to various nations.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewI will leaveוּנְטַשְׁתִּ֣יךָ (ū·nə·ṭaš·tî·ḵā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 5203: To pound, smite, to disperse, to thrust off, down, out, uponyou in the desert,הַמִּדְבָּ֗רָה (ham·miḏ·bā·rāh)Article | Noun - masculine singular | third person feminine singularStrong's 4057: A pasture, a desert, speechyouאוֹתְךָ֙ (’ō·wṯ·ḵā)Direct object marker | second person masculine singularStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative caseandוְאֵת֙ (wə·’êṯ)Conjunctive waw | Direct object markerStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative caseallכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe fishדְּגַ֣ת (də·ḡaṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 1710: A fishof your streams.יְאֹרֶ֔יךָ (yə·’ō·re·ḵā)Noun - masculine plural construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 2975: Nile -- a channel, a fosse, canal, shaft, the Nile, the TigrisYou will fallתִּפּ֔וֹל (tip·pō·wl)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 5307: To fall, lieonעַל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstthe openפְּנֵ֤י (pə·nê)Noun - common plural constructStrong's 6440: The facefieldהַשָּׂדֶה֙ (haś·śā·ḏeh)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7704: Field, landand will notלֹ֥א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nobe taken awayתֵאָסֵ֖ף (ṯê·’ā·sêp̄)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 622: To gather for, any purpose, to receive, take away, removeor gathered for burial.תִקָּבֵ֑ץ (ṯiq·qā·ḇêṣ)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 6908: To gather, collectI have given youנְתַתִּ֥יךָ (nə·ṯat·tî·ḵā)Verb - Qal - Perfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 5414: To give, put, setas foodלְאָכְלָֽה׃ (lə·’āḵ·lāh)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 402: Food, eatingto the beastsלְחַיַּ֥ת (lə·ḥay·yaṯ)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 2416: Alive, raw, fresh, strong, lifeof the earthהָאָ֛רֶץ (hā·’ā·reṣ)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 776: Earth, landand the birdsוּלְע֥וֹף (ū·lə·‘ō·wp̄)Conjunctive waw, Preposition-l | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 5775: Flying creaturesof the air.הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (haš·šā·ma·yim)Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 8064: Heaven, skyJump to PreviousAbandon Animals Birds Cast Earth Fall Field Fields Fish Food Forth Gathered I'll Leave Meat Open Rivers Sky Thrown Together Wilderness Won't You'll
