Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(5) That the loops may take hold one of another.--Rather, correspond one to another. They were not to "take hold," but to be attached by golden links.Taches, or clasps. These might be split-rings, or links like modern sleeve-links.And it shall be one tabernacle.--Rather, and (so) the tabernacle shall be one. The division of the curtain which formed the roof into two portions tended to make a division in the tabernacle itself. To prevent this, the two curtains were to be so looped together as to be practically one. Thus the tabernacle itself became one.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewMakeתַּעֲשֶׂה֮ (ta·‘ă·śeh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 6213: To do, makefiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (ḥă·miš·šîm)Number - common pluralStrong's 2572: Fiftyloopsלֻֽלָאֹ֗ת (lu·lā·’ōṯ)Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 3924: A loopon the edgeבִּקְצֵ֣ה (biq·ṣêh)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 7097: End, extremityof theהָאֶחָת֒ (hā·’e·ḥāṯ)Article | Number - feminine singularStrong's 259: United, one, firstend curtainבַּיְרִיעָ֣ה (bay·rî·‘āh)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 3407: A hangingof bothהַשֵּׁנִ֑ית (haš·šê·nîṯ)Article | Number - ordinal feminine singularStrong's 8145: Second (an ordinal number)sets,בַּמַּחְבֶּ֣רֶת (bam·maḥ·be·reṯ)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 4225: Something joined, place of joiningso that the loopsהַלֻּ֣לָאֹ֔ת (hal·lu·lā·’ōṯ)Article | Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 3924: A loopline upמַקְבִּילֹת֙ (maq·bî·lōṯ)Verb - Hifil - Participle - feminine pluralStrong's 6901: To receive, takeoppositeאִשָּׁ֖ה (’iš·šāh)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 802: Woman, wife, femaleone another.אֲחֹתָֽהּ׃ (’ă·ḥō·ṯāh)Noun - feminine singular construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 269: Sister -- a sisterJump to PreviousCausing Coupling Curtain Edge End Fifty Hold Loops Make Opposite Second Twists
