Pulpit Commentary
Pulpit CommentaryVerse 24. - Thou shalt overlay it with pure gold. Again, gilding may be meant; but a covering with thin plates of gold is perhaps more probable. A crown of gold round about. A border, or edging round the top, which would prevent anything that was placed on the table from readily falling off. (Compare ver. 11.)
Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(24) Thou shalt overlay it . . . --Like the ark (Exodus 25:11), and the altar of incense (Exodus 30:3), the table was to be overlaid with plates of gold. It was a species of altar, on which lay offerings to God, and, being close to the Divine Presence, required to be made of the best materials.A crown of gold round about.--Rather, a border, or edging of gold, something to prevent what was placed on the table from readily falling off.
