Pulpit CommentaryVerse 15. - For indeed; rather, And also; not by natural causes alone, but by the hand of God, i.e. by special penal judgments also, were they troubled and destroyed (cf. Numbers 16:31, etc.; Numbers 17:12, 13; 21:6; 25:1-9).

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(15) The hand of the Lord was against them.--The best comment on this discipline is to be found in Psalm 90:8-9, "Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance; for all our days are passed away in thy wrath."
