Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(8) Confusion of face.--Repeated from Daniel 9:7, so as to bring into stronger contrast the mercy of God (Daniel 9:9) with the righteousness" mentioned in Daniel 9:7. St. Jerome well remarks, "Post sententiam judicantis provocat eum ad clementiam." The absolute mercy and forgiveness of God is implied by the article in this verse, just as His absolute righteousness is in Daniel 9:7.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewO LORD,יְהוָ֗ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelweלָ֚נוּ (lā·nū)Preposition | first person common pluralStrong's Hebrew are coveredהַפָּנִ֔ים (hap·pā·nîm)Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 6440: The facewith shame—בֹּ֣שֶׁת (bō·šeṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 1322: Shame, shameful thingour kings,לִמְלָכֵ֥ינוּ (lim·lā·ḵê·nū)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine plural construct | first person common pluralStrong's 4428: A kingour leaders,לְשָׂרֵ֖ינוּ (lə·śā·rê·nū)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine plural construct | first person common pluralStrong's 8269: Chieftain, chief, ruler, official, captain, princeand our fathers—וְלַאֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ (wə·la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·nū)Conjunctive waw, Preposition-l | Noun - masculine plural construct | first person common pluralStrong's 1: Fatherbecauseאֲשֶׁ֥ר (’ă·šer)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatwe have sinnedחָטָ֖אנוּ (ḥā·ṭā·nū)Verb - Qal - Perfect - first person common pluralStrong's 2398: To miss, to sin, to forfeit, lack, expiate, repent, lead astray, condemnagainst You.לָֽךְ׃ (lāḵ)Preposition | second person masculine singularStrong's Hebrew Jump to PreviousBelongeth Belongs Confusion Covered Face Fathers Heads Kings Open Princes Rulers Shame Sin Sinned
