Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(26) Unto the end.--The language of this decree is remarkably Scriptural. This is due, no doubt, to the share which Daniel had in the composition of it. By the "end" is meant the end of all the heathen kingdoms which shall arise upon the earth, or, in other words, the setting up of the kingdom of the Messiah.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewI herebyשִׂ֣ים (śîm)Verb - Nifal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7761: To set, makedecreeטְעֵם֒ (ṭə·‘êm)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2942: Flavor, judgment, accountthatדִּ֣י ׀ (dî)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 1768: Who, which, that, becausein everyבְּכָל־ (bə·ḵāl)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3606: The whole, all, any, everypartשָׁלְטָ֣ן (šā·lə·ṭān)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 7985: Dominionof my kingdom,מַלְכוּתִ֗י (mal·ḵū·ṯî)Noun - feminine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 4437: Royalty, reign, kingdom[men are to] trembleזָיְעִין֙ (zā·yə·‘în)Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine pluralStrong's 2112: To tremblein fearוְדָ֣חֲלִ֔ין (wə·ḏā·ḥă·lîn)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine pluralStrong's 1763: To slink, to fear, be formidablebeforeמִן־ (min-)PrepositionStrong's 4481: From, out of, by, by reason of, at, more thanthe Godאֱלָהֵ֣הּ (’ĕ·lā·hêh)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 426: Godofדִּי־ (dî-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 1768: Who, which, that, becauseDaniel:דָֽנִיֵּ֑אל (ḏā·nî·yêl)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1841: Daniel -- 'God is my judge', an Israelite leader in BabylonForדִּי־ (dî-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 1768: Who, which, that, becauseHeה֣וּא ׀ (hū)Pronoun - third person masculine singularStrong's 1932: He, self, the same, this, that, as, areis the livingחַיָּ֗א (ḥay·yā)Adjective - masculine singular determinateStrong's 2417: Alive, lifeGod,אֱלָהָ֣א (’ĕ·lā·hā)Noun - masculine singular determinateStrong's 426: Godand He endures forever;וְקַיָּם֙ (wə·qay·yām)Conjunctive waw | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 7011: PermanentHis kingdomוּמַלְכוּתֵהּ֙ (ū·mal·ḵū·ṯêh)Conjunctive waw | Noun - feminine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 4437: Royalty, reign, kingdomwill neverלָ֣א (lā)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3809: Not, nobe destroyed,תִתְחַבַּ֔ל (ṯiṯ·ḥab·bal)Verb - Hitpael - Imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 2255: To destroy, hurtand His dominionוְשָׁלְטָנֵ֖הּ (wə·šā·lə·ṭā·nêh)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 7985: Dominionwill never end.סוֹפָֽא׃ (sō·w·p̄ā)Noun - masculine singular determinateStrong's 5491: A terminationJump to PreviousDaniel Decree Destroyed Dominion End Enduring Fear Forever Kingdom Steadfast Stedfast Tremble
