Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(29) Twelve months--i.e., counting from the time of the vision. Sufficient time for repentance was mercifully granted to the king.Palace of the kingdom of Babylon.--He had palaces in other towns. Daniel lays a stress upon the fact that this occurred in the town of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar, the golden head of the image, was in the very centre of his dominions, in his own proud capital, when this occurred. It is needless, therefore, to assume that this was written by a person who lived a long way off from Babylon.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewTwelveתְּרֵֽי־ (tə·rê-)Number - masculine singular constructStrong's 8648: Twomonthsיַרְחִ֖ין (yar·ḥîn)Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 3393: A monthlater,לִקְצָ֥ת (liq·ṣāṯ)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 7118: A termination, a portion, afteras he wasהֲוָֽה׃ (hă·wāh)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1934: To become, come to pass, bewalkingמְהַלֵּ֥ךְ (mə·hal·lêḵ)Verb - Piel - Participle - masculine singularStrong's 1981: To walkonעַל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5922: Above, over, upon, againstthe roof of the royal palaceהֵיכַ֧ל (hê·ḵal)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1965: A large public building, palace, templeofדִּ֥י (dî)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 1768: Who, which, that, becauseBabylon,בָבֶ֖ל (ḇā·ḇel)Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 895: Babylon -- an eastern Mediterranean empire and its capital cityJump to PreviousBabylon End Great House Kingdom Later Months Palace Roof Royal Twelve Walked Walking
