Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(6) The one half of the greatness of thy wisdom.--Kings has simply, "the half was not told me." The chronicler has made an explanatory addition. (See 1Chronicles 12:29, and 2Chronicles 30:18, for the word marbith, "increase," "multitude," which occurs thrice in the Chronicles and twice elsewhere.)Thou exceedest the fame.--Literally, Thou kast added to the report. Kings, more fully, "Thou hast added wisdom and weal to the report."Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewBut I did notוְלֹֽא־ (wə·lō-)Conjunctive waw | Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nobelieveהֶאֱמַ֣נְתִּי (he·’ĕ·man·tî)Verb - Hifil - Perfect - first person common singularStrong's 539: To confirm, supportthe reportsלְדִבְרֵיהֶ֗ם (lə·ḏiḇ·rê·hem)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine pluralStrong's 1697: A word, a matter, thing, a causeuntilעַ֤ד (‘aḏ)PrepositionStrong's 5704: As far as, even to, up to, until, whileI cameבָּ֙אתִי֙ (bā·ṯî)Verb - Qal - Perfect - first person common singularStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, goand sawוַתִּרְאֶ֣ינָה (wat·tir·’e·nāh)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person feminine pluralStrong's 7200: To seewith my own eyes.עֵינַ֔י (‘ê·nay)Noun - cdc | first person common singularStrong's 5869: An eye, a fountainIndeed,וְהִנֵּה֙ (wə·hin·nêh)Conjunctive waw | InterjectionStrong's 2009: Lo! behold!notלֹ֣א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nohalfחֲצִ֖י (ḥă·ṣî)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2677: The half, middleof the greatnessמַרְבִּ֣ית (mar·bîṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 4768: Increase, great number, greatnessof your wisdomחָכְמָתֶ֑ךָ (ḥā·ḵə·mā·ṯe·ḵā)Noun - feminine singular construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 2451: Wisdomwas toldהֻגַּד־ (hug·gaḏ-)Verb - Hofal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5046: To be conspicuousto me.לִ֔י (lî)Preposition | first person common singularStrong's Hebrew You have far exceededיָסַ֕פְתָּ (yā·sap̄·tā)Verb - Qal - Perfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 3254: To add, augmentthe reportהַשְּׁמוּעָ֖ה (haš·šə·mū·‘āh)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 8052: Something heard, an announcementI heard.שָׁמָֽעְתִּי׃ (šā·mā·‘ə·tî)Verb - Qal - Perfect - first person common singularStrong's 8085: To hear intelligentlyJump to PreviousAbundance Added Believe Believed Credence Credit Declared Exceed Exceedest Eyes Faith Fame Great Greater Greatness Half Heard Howbeit However Indeed Nevertheless Report Reports Surpass Wisdom Word Words
