Pulpit CommentaryVerse 19. - Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house [Wordsworth observes that it was filial reverence prevented Solomon's mentioning the cause of this prohibition which, however, is mentioned with appropriate humility by David himself (1 Chronicles 22:8) ]; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name. [2 Samuel 7:11, 12. The recurrence of "the name" of the Lord is to be noticed (see vers. 16, 17, 18, 29, 48, etc.) The name of God is the expression to man of Has nature, attributes, etc.]
